Job Description

St. Francis of Assisi School, a parish school in Northeast Baltimore, seeks qualified candidates to serve as a part-time Spanish Teacher. The Spanish Teacher will work 3 days per week and is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate program for children that complies with all mandated state and Archdiocesan policies and procedures. The position provides instruction in Spanish to grades PK4 through 8th. St. Francis of Assisi is an approved International Baccalaureate World School offering the Middle Years Program for grades 6-8. The school also features a Preschool program for ages 2-4 which is rated Level 5 with Maryland EXCELS. Ability to speak additional languages beyond Spanish and/or to provide instruction in a subject area other than World Languages may lead to additional hours or full-time employment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement engaging developmentally appropriate lessons for a World Languages setting. Lessons should have clear objectives aligned with the curriculum standards of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and with the IB program for middle school
  • Observe and assess student progress, recording such progress and sharing with parents as required by school policy. Fill out report cards each trimester including notes about each child
  • Maintain an attractive, organized, engaging learning environment
  • Develop procedures for inside and outside the classroom
  • Maintain familiarity with all emergency procedures and protocols
  • Responsible for the safety and active supervision of students at all times, and for classroom management using PBIS (positive behavior intervention and support) protocols
  • Communicate in a clear and professional manner. Written communication is grammatically correct and error free
  • Keep detailed records observing children's behavior and progress. Lead teachers share this information effectively with parents and colleagues
  • Communicate with parents frequently regarding the student experience, identifying early concerns and providing resources
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff and administration
  • Attend all faculty meetings and school events, including, but not limited to, Back to School Nights, Open Houses, Parent/Teacher conferences, and other events as requested by administration
  • Attend all professional development days and workshops
  • Maintain high professional standards consistent with the mission of the school and the teaching of the Catholic Church

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field
  • Spoken and written fluency in both Spanish and English
  • MSDE certification
  • Basic understanding of Catholic School philosophy, goals and objectives
  • Positive references and recommendations
