Job Description

In 1881, the first three Sisters of Bon Secours arrived in America from Paris. These Sisters were trained nurses and their purpose was to visit the sick and dying and care for them in their own homes. In 1919, the first Bon Secours Hospital was opened in Baltimore. The House on the Marriottsville campus opened in 1965 and the Retreat and Conference Center opened in 1968. Our charism of healing, compassion and liberation is part of all of our efforts. The Site Leader - Bon Secours Volunteer Ministry Program will supervise and guide the Bon Secours Volunteer Ministry (BSVM) volunteer community in Richmond to fully engage in the charism of the Sisters of Bon Secours in order to fulfill Bon Secours Volunteer Ministry’s mission of creating “transformation through service with others.” In support of this mission, the Site Leader will lead the development of the volunteers’ intentional community, the development of the volunteer ministries, and the development of volunteer discernment and professional growth.

 

The Site Leader reports to the Director, Bon Secours Volunteer Ministry. With responsibilities relating to program infrastructure and promotions, the Site Leader reports to the Program Manager.

 



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist Program Manager and Director with the creation of a second community of Bon Secours Volunteers in Baltimore, MD.
  • Supervise BSVM Volunteers in Richmond and assists Director with supervising and coordinating Formation Team.
  • Lead volunteers in developing their own intentional Christian community.
  • Lead the development of a community centered in Christ and, therefore, a community in which the volunteers’ spiritual growth is the priority.
  • Assist with the formation of BSVM Volunteers by serving on the BSVM Formation Team.
  • With Site Leader Baltimore, leads planning, coordination, and implementation of formation events.
  • Identifies service sites and service opportunities, which express the Bon Secours charism of being “Good Help.” Prepares these sites to partner with BSVM as a ministry placement site and to mentor BSVM volunteers.
  • Ensure the BSVM ministries/placement sites meaningfully inform the volunteers’ professional development and the volunteers’ discernment of a future vocation, particularly in health care, education, or social service.
  • Uphold policies for volunteer safety and security. Guide volunteers to take responsibility for personal safety.
  • Oversee volunteers’ responsibility with the maintenance and upkeep of BSVM House and the BSVM cars.
  • Assist Program Manager with Social Media & Blog.
  • Assist with annual selection process of BSVM volunteers.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

 

 

 

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Sociology, Education, Psychology/Human Development, or related field;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a ministry position, education position, or student life;
  • Minimum of 3 years working with young adults;
  • Understanding or willingness to understand the mission of BSVM and the Congregation of Bon Secours;
  • Understanding of Catholic Social Teaching;
  • Ability to relate to diverse populations;
  • Proven track record of relationship building, with the ability to work with, as well as communicate effectively (verbal, written, interpersonal) with, all professional levels;
  • Demonstrate high degree of initiative and autonomy with ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Advanced MicroSoft Office, desktop publishing, website maintenance and social networking skills;
  • Exceptional organization, creativity, time- and project-management skills;
  • Ability to exercise good judgment; to be flexible and cooperative;
  • Excellent attention to detail and proof reading skills;
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of all information;

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in one of the fields listed above;
  • 1-2 years of experience living and serving in an intentional, Christian community similar to BSVM or another full-time service program/volunteer corps such as Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Mercy Corps, and Lutheran Volunteer Corps.
  • Teaching experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in a health care setting;
  • Demonstrated experience with marketing and promotions;
  • Public speaking and/or training experience;
  • Teambuilding experience.

     



    WORKING CONDITIONS

    This is an full-time exempt position requiring hours of work that extend beyond the traditional work hours, including evenings and weekends. The incumbent will work from the Bon Secours Leadership House (Marriottsville campus), Volunteer Residence (Baltimore city), Volunteer Placement Sites (Baltimore & Richmond at this time) and from their home. Business travel for this position is anticipated, particularly for recruitment purposes. There is no relocation assistance offered with this position.
