Job Description

Saint Maria Goretti High School located in Hagerstown, Maryland invites applications for the position of Principal. Educating approximately 210 students, St. Maria Goretti embodies the charism and spirit of the School Sisters of Notre Dame as a college preparatory high school educating young men and women. The Principal serves as Chief Academic Officer with overall responsibility for school academics including faculty and staff supervision, academic and student services budget, curriculum and institutional policy.

Reporting to the President in collaboration with the Superintendent of Catholic Schools, the Principal is the academic leader and the spokesperson for Saint Maria Goretti High School. The Principal works collaboratively with the President and the Archdiocesan Office of Catholic Schools to assure compliance with Archdiocesan policy and Maryland state requirements. Working closely with the President, the School Board and other groups within the school community, the Principal provides leadership to ensure the institution’s Catholic Identity, and mission effectiveness while actively working to achieve the schools strategic plan.

Job Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic, fully able to model Christian values, adhere to the teachings of the church, and actively participate in the sacramental life of the Church.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and vision to create and inspire the school community in the creation of a unique school in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of Catholic education while ensuring its Catholic identity.
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in educational administration, supervision, curriculum development, or education.
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience at the appropriate level (9-12) and three years of administration experience in a Catholic school.
  • Maryland certification as a Principal (ADMIN II), or eligibility for.
  • Catechist certification and/or ongoing faith formation.
