Job Description


The teaching assistant will serve as the assistant to the Pre K 4 lead teacher at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, a Pre-K3 to 8th grade Catholic school in Towson, Maryland. The assistant helps prepare materials for lessons, reinforces the ideas and topics presented by the lead teacher and assists in helping the children establish their day to day routine. IHM school’s preference is for this assistant to be Spanish bilingual so as to supplement the introductory Spanish program for the Pre K 4 children.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with the teacher to plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to the school’s philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • Assists students with the use of technology or other audio equipment
  • Makes observation, collect data and gives input to teacher
  • Willingness to participate in professional workshops in early childhood education.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, their families and other employees outside the school.
  • Ability to perform clerical work and knowledge of technology to support student learning
  • Ability to have strong, positive communication and interaction skills when dealing with co-workers, students, administrators, parents and/or the community
  • Maintain high professional standards consistent with the mission of the school and the teaching of the Catholic Church.
  • Responsible for the safety and active supervision of students at all times and for classroom management using PBIS (positive behavior intervention and support) protocols.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administration.


Job Requirements

  • 90 hour child care certification, preferred
  • Degree in Spanish or considerable experience teaching Spanish or Early Childhood Education, preferred
  • Spanish bilingual, native speaker, preferred but not required.
  • Experience in a Catholic School setting.
  • An appreciation for pre K students and their families.
