Job Description

St. Joseph School located in Cockeysville , Maryland has a opening for a part-time long term substitute Music teacher beginning in March 2019.   The teacher will develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music. Individual must have strong understanding of music and its application to worship and Sacred Liturgy.  This position is 24 hours a week Tues, Wed and Thurs.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music and choral music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble) to pupils. Utilizes course of study adopted by the Archdiocese of Baltimore and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified by the Archdiocese of Baltimore and administrative regulations and procedures of St. Joseph School.
  3. Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  4. Collaborates with other staff regarding curriculum, programs, and school liturgical prayer experiences and Masses.
  5. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
  6. Evaluates each pupil’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group and communication of such through PowerSchool.
  7. Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community.
  8. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  9. Participates in strategic planning regarding curriculum and other long-term planning for the implementation of programs.
  10. Participates in faculty meeting, professional development, and committees.
  11. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school/Archdiocese, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.

Job Requirements

 

  • Master’s degree with major in music
  • Current MSDE certification in Music K-8
  • Ability to play at least one standard orchestral instrument (if instrumental teacher) or ability to sing (if choral teacher)
  • Practicing Catholic preferred
