Job Description

St. Peter the Apostle, Libertytown, located in Union Bridge, Maryland, is seeking candidates for a Janitorial Worker/Housekeeper.  This is a full time, benefit eligible position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish and adhere to a regular housekeeping schedule for all areas of all buildings including but not limited to the Rectory, Parish Center, Sappington Hall, Thrift Shop, Church, the Daily Mass Chapel and Adoration Chapel, to insure that all areas are maintained in a clean and orderly manner
  • Engage in cleaning activities as appropriate
  • Dust and polish furniture
  • Dust walls and baseboards
  • Vacuuming all carpeted areas
  • Scrub and wax floors, wash windows, dust blinds
  • Scrub and disinfect all areas of the bathrooms and kitchen
  • Empty and properly dispose of trash
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Prepare list of cleaning supplies; give list to office manager for purchase
  • Help stock inventory shelves, ensure that standard use items are replenished as needed.  Account for all inventory and equipment
  • Set up tables, chairs and other physical items for daytime, evening, and weekend functions as directed
  • Break down tables, chairs upon conclusion of events in a timely manner
  • Collect and remove litter from grounds on a daily basis






Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • Must possess a valid State driver's license with no more than 3 current points
  • Must possess the ability to: move, load and unload equipment and supplies weighing 35 pounds and heavier
  • Perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion
  • Work independently without direct supervision
  • Honor and maintain confidentiality
  • Work positively and effectively with others; respond to multiple demands respectfully; prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Prior successful experience in creating and adhering to a clean plan for a large household, including experience engaging in all activities described above as "Essential Functions"
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for the privacy and property of others
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning products, including disinfectants, and their proper use
  • Ability to lift and carry items of a heavy nature, including furniture and vacuum cleaners
  • Ability to maintain flexibility in the daily work schedule, and in daily work duties, to successfully perform all Essential Functions
  • Must possess the visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate mobile equipment in a safe manner
  • This position will require work schedule flexibility and on-call availability in order to respond to emergencies when they arise
