Job Description

Immaculate Heart of Mary School, located in the Towson area seeks candidates for the position of Instructional Assistant for a primary classroom. IHM is a Pre-K3 to 8 th grade Catholic school in Towson, Maryland. The Instructional Assistant is responsible for working with the lead teacher to plan and implement daily standard-based lessons to support students’ acquisition and application of developmentally appropriate skills and concepts in all subject areas (particularly English Language Arts and Mathematics), and to engage parents and colleagues in support of the primary school’s curriculum as prescribed by the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with the teacher to plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to the
  • school’s philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • Works with the teacher in making purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for
  • effective teaching strategies and meets the individual needs of students.
  • Works with established behavior structure (PBIS), including classroom management structure and behavioral rules.
  • Assists students with the use of technology or other audio equipment
  • Makes observation, collect data and gives input to teacher
  • Attend all staff meetings, recommended training programs and conferences as requested by the
  • principal
  • Willingness to participate in professional workshops that work for the improvement of early
  • childhood education.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, their families and other employees outside the
  • school.
  • Ability to perform clerical work and knowledge of technology to support student learning
  • Ability to have strong, positive communication and interaction skills when dealing with
  • co-workers, students, administrators, parents and/or the community

Job Requirements

  • Degree (or working toward a degree) in elementary education or a related field and/or experience working with children.
  • Experience in a Catholic School setting.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and oral form
  • Ability to use patience and care to provide students of all abilities with an active learning environment
  • Intellectual curiosity for best-practice pedagogy in elementary education.
  • An appreciation for intermediate students and their families.
