Job Description

The Office of Special Needs serves as the primary resource for the Archdiocese for disabilities ministry and deaf ministry. In addition, it is responsible for supporting greater inclusivity and accessibility throughout the Archdiocese of Baltimore in our parishes for those with special needs. We are currently seeking a part-time Director for the Office of Special Needs to ensure that the Office provides evangelization, advocacy, faith formation, catechetical training, resources, and website assistance for persons with special needs, including those with disabilities, the deaf and hard of hearing, as well as their families, caregivers, pastors, clergy, catechists, and parish staff.

In this fulfilling role, you will have responsibilities for services in the following areas:

  • Providing support to parishes and pastorates to foster greater inclusivity and accessibility for persons with disabilities, the deaf and hard of hearing community, and others with special needs.
  • Supervising two part-time staff who carry out hands-on disabilities and deaf ministry respectively.
  • Oversee staff in directing, planning, recruiting volunteers, promoting, and securing funding for Camp GLOW and Camp GLOW West.
  • Provide and oversee provision of catechetical resources for persons with disabilities and supporting parishes through staff consultations, research, presentations and workshops, and resources for religious education and sacramental preparation.

Job Requirements

To be considered best qualified, you should possess the following qualifications or skills:

  • A Master’s degree in pastoral theology or related field.
  • A person with demonstrated fidelity to and understanding of the teaching of the Catholic Church.
  • At least five years pastoral experience in disabilities ministry, deaf ministry, or related field.
  • At least five years leadership and management experience with proven ability for crafting and implementing a vision and strategy, effective team leadership, and conceiving and developing new initiatives.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Some knowledge of ASL preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred.
