Job Description

Saint Ann Church, located in Hagerstown, Maryland, is seeking a Director of Youth and Campus Ministries.  The mission of Parish and High School Ministry in the Archdiocese of Baltimore is to create, form and develop missionary disciples of Jesus Christ for the Catholic Church.  The Director of Youth and Campus Ministries provides vision, development, and coordination for ministry to the youth (Grades 6-12) of Saint Ann Church and Saint Maria Goretti High School-integrating adolescent catechesis into a comprehensive ministry with, by and for young people.

As a member of the parish and high school staffs, the Director advocates for a comprehensive vision of youth ministry and coordinates the development and operation of ministry programs on the parish/school campus.

The Director is accountable to the Pastor of Saint Ann Parish for parish related ministry and to the principal of Saint Maria Goretti High School for high school related ministry.  The Director works collaboratively with, and draws upon the programs, services and resources of the archdiocesan Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and participates in the archdiocesan Association of Professional Youth Ministers and in any local youth ministries association.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop a systematic and intentional plan for adolescent catechesis and faith formation that utilizes a creative variety of formats, settings, and methods
  • Build and grow formation and evangelization activities.  Assist students in the exploration and appropriation of their faith that leads to spiritual growth and development supported by opportunities for sacramental preparation
  • Collaborate with the Director of Faith Formation, the Coordinator of Confirmation, the Faith Formation Commission and the Business Manager at Saint Ann Church, along with the Faculty and Staff of Saint Maria Goretti High School, for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive youth ministry program
  • Coordinate this effort with the participation of a Youth Ministry Leadership Team which can provide vision, direction, support, and advocacy for the parish and high school ministry and youth
  • Coordinate the recruitment, training and support of adults and young people in volunteer leadership positions, including compliance with archdiocesan Child & Youth Protection Policies and Procedures
  • Provide resources (print, video, etc.) for effective programming
  • Foster the involvement and participation of young people in the various activities and ministries of the parish and high school
  • Coordinate the outreach to, and evangelization of, all young people in the parish and high school as well as the surrounding community, with special awareness of and interest in the needs of the unchurched
  • Provide appropriate services and programs to support parents and families of adolescents
  • Develops and monitors a parish ministry budget in collaboration with the Business Manager and Pastor

A. General:

  • Attends regular staff meetings
  • Participates in parish/high school pastoral planning
  • Communicates with both staffs about youth ministry activities
  • Collaborates with staff members in planning youth ministry activities
  • Serves as a resource person on issues related to youth ministry
  • Serves as the liaison with the leadership teams of the parish/high school

B. Parish Youth Ministry - Catechetical, Spiritual, Social and Service:

  • Plan and run Middle School youth nights (6-8 times/year)
  • Plan and run periodic High School youth nights with the help of Core Team volunteers
  • Organize trips to conferences, retreats, mission camps, and other activities
  • Organize an annual retreat for Middle School students and an annual retreat for High School students
  • Support Parish Sacramental retreats where needed
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of volunteers who share in ministering to/with the youth
  • Maintain clear and frequent communication with youth and parents
  • Promote and advertise youth ministry activities and services through the various means of communication (bulletin, parish website, social media, etc.)

C. High School Campus Ministry

  • Prepare and develop an active and vibrant liturgical ministry program to include the celebration of monthly Masses, school-wide Sacrament of Reconciliation services, Stations of the Cross, grade-level retreats for all students, optional spiritual retreats, and summer mission trip
  • Coordinate and/or provide formation and training sessions for liturgical ministers, including lectors, cantors, altar servers, and Eucharistic ministers
  • Coordinate with local priests/chaplain a monthly schedule of opportunities for individual celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and spiritual advisement
  • Develop a service and justice ministry to include activities, outreach, and formation grounded in Catholic Social Teaching.  Duties include: coordination and record keeping for Service Learning Program; coordination of Fellowship of Christian Athletes program; coordination of annual Service Fair; coordination of annual Lenten Appeal; outreach to other youth ministers

 

 

Job Requirements

  • An actively practicing and fully initiated Catholic in full communion with the Catholic Church and its teachings who demonstrates enthusiasm for the Catholic faith, a strong sense of mission work and outreach in the Church, especially with youth and a deep desire for ongoing formation in life
  • Preference will be given to a college graduate with a BA in Theology/Religious Studies with well-developed knowledge of Scripture, Theology and Spirituality and at least 3 years successful experience in coordinating youth ministry in a parish setting, though candidates will be evaluated on the entirety of their qualifications
  • Must possess a current certification in Youth Ministry or be willing to enroll in and continuously participate in the Equip for Ministry program with the Archdiocese of Baltimore
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, Google, and various software applications and in the appropriate use of social media and digital communications and culture
  • Successful completion of Archdiocese of Baltimore Child & Youth Protection screening
  • Knowledge of human and spiritual development of youth and young adults
  • Ability to work a highly flexible schedule involving evening and weekend hours.  Ability to maintain a core set of office hours in order to be available for co-workers and key constituents.  On those occasions where extensive weekend work hours will be required, incumbent will work with supervisors to determine a flexible schedule for the pay period in which such work hours occur
