Job Description

St. Ambrose Parish, located in Baltimore, Maryland, is seeking candidates for a Director of Music Ministry.  This person would be responsible for liturgy planning and playing for Saturday 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. mass.  Direction of a 20-25 member gospel choir, one rehearsal a week (1.5 to 2 hours) work with liturgy committee and be a part of pastor's staff.  This is a 6-8 hours per week position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To attend the parish staff meetings and liturgy committee meetings
  • Assist the liturgy committee in planning the liturgies and sacred seasons of Advent, Lent, while remaining the primary planner for all regular and special celebrations
  • Familiar and comfortable with Gospel and other types of church music
  • Help to develop and support the members of the gospel choir and recruit new membership
  • To train and schedule cantors
  • To continue to challenge the choir and develop new ideas and energy
  • To have a willingness to participate in at least one ongoing formation seminar or liturgical workshop offered by the Archdiocese of Baltimore
  • To fulfill the requirements of time:  Two masses per week (1-2 hours), One rehearsal (1-2 hours) and holy days (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Day), New Year's Eve, Holy Thursday Eve, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Vigil, Assumption, Immaculate Conception, etc.)
  • Note: funerals or weddings serve as principal musician and these would be an additional stipend for the director

 

 

 

Job Requirements

  • To be a working Christian, Catholic would be helpful, if not, a healthy and open knowledge of the Catholic Faith
  • To have strong interpersonal and leadership skills to interact on various levels with a mix of people and personalities
  • Have playing and music skills in various styles and types of music to assist the gospel choir and cantors in broadening their creativity
  • Sense of humor
