Job Description

St. Mark Catholic Church, located in Fallston, Maryland, is seeking candidates for the Director of Evangelization. The Director of Evangelization upholds the mission of the Church to evangelize and bring others to Christ. This position has a dual leadership role that works simultaneously: 1) Evangelization which advocates the implementation of the goals of "Go and Make Disciples" within the active community; the inactive community and the unchurched; and 2) Catechesis which is the overall responsibility for life-long faith formation in children and adults. Critical to the position is the ability to utilize and incorporate new media and communication methods and explore new approaches to Christian Formation in order to form disciples who make disciples. Individual must be able to work a flexible schedule comprised of daytime, evening, and weekend hours as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Formulates, applies, and leads strategies, guidance, and activities for Evangelization that can be applied in or adapted to all aspects of Pastorate operations and Mission support
  • Plans, leads or directs efforts to ensure outreach to the unchurched, those who are searching, and those Catholics who may have drifted away from the Church within the Pastorate area
  • Engages parishioners to consider an active role of evangelizing. Forms and coaches volunteers in methods and techniques of evangelizing to engage inactive Catholics, registered parishioners, and those seeking a faith home
  • Provides oversight, coordination, and integration of evangelization efforts including life-long faith formation efforts throughout the Pastorate including:
    • Preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation, Reconciliation and Matrimony
    • Meeting with and advising individuals seeking annulments
    • Continuing Adult Faith Formation
  • In collaboration with the Pastor, ensures the development of vital faith formation efforts and the integration of these efforts with other Pastorate activities to enhance the ability of the Pastorate towards accomplishment of the Mission
  • Coordinates formation activities with the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry
  • Coordinates and supervises Coordinator of Evangelization in Alpha and other outreach programs
  • Conducts programs of meaningful and ongoing follow-up with families, parishioners, and those who have received the Sacraments recently
  • Determines and implements appropriate curricula for the applicable sectors to be formed. Ensures that an appropriate balance of catechesis, retreats, prayer and worship, social issues, service, and community exists within the curricula
  • Ensures appropriate administration of, and support to, all formation, including scheduling, record-keeping, and parent-catechist interactions
  • Actively seeks and engages parishioners to volunteer to serve as Pastorate religious educators and catechists. Forms, coaches, and monitors volunteers in all aspects of the curricula and instructional methodology and the relationship of formation to the Mission
  • Participates in formulating the Pastorate religious education budget, as applicable
  • Provide back-up and as-needed assistance to other Pastoral staff members as requested by the Pastor
  • Performs other duties as requested or needed

Job Requirements

  • Practicing and devoted Catholic who is fully able to participate in the sacramental life of the Church
  • Bachelor's degree in theology, religious studies, pastoral ministry or related field
  • 3 or more years of experience in developing and providing faith formation or religious education in a parish setting
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of all forms of social media in order to promote evangelization and catechetical efforts and activities
  • Excellent planning and visioning capabilities, collaborative abilities, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to direct and manage paid and volunteer staff
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule comprised of daytime, evening and weekend hours as needed
