Job Description

St. Mary’s High School, a co-educational Catholic School in Annapolis, MD, is seeking a Band/Music Director who is eager to build a band program with the gifts and talents that exist within our student body. The ideal candidate will have the necessary expertise and experience to work with students at all levels of ability from 6th- 12th graders, with the primary focus on 9th- 12th graders. This position requires a regular Monday through Friday schedule with occasional nights or weekends for performances or related school functions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Promote and support the school’s mission as defined in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Plan, develop, and implement a band program.
  • Work with the administration to provide for proper scheduling and assignment of students based on their individual abilities and program needs.
  • Recruit and maintain enrollment adequate for program to achieve success.
  • Promote good public relations between school and community with band participation in community events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of overall operations of instrumental music program.
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Use program outcomes for corrective action, improvement, and recognition of success.
  • Recognize the value and effectively utilize the efforts of student officers in promoting the goals of the organization.
  • Seek, accept, and respond to evaluative feedback from staff members, utilizing this date to improve performance.
  • Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner.
  • Schedule activities effectively and secure resources needed to accomplish goals.
  • Participate in the systematic monitoring of the use, care, and replacement of equipment and uniforms.
  • Demonstrate responsible fiscal control over assigned budgets.


  • B.S. Degree in Music related field, required
  • Graduate degree in music related field, preferred
  • High school instrumental band teaching experience, preferred
  • Maryland State Teaching certification, preferred
