Job Description

Saint Joseph School Fullerton, located in Perry Hall, Maryland has an immediate opening for a full-time, 12 month, custodian. The qualified candidate should have the ability to perform a variety of work in the area of general maintenance; this includes custodial work and minor repairs of the facility and equipment at St. Joseph School. To ensure that building systems operate efficiently and the physical condition of the building does not deteriorate.  Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists in keeping the school building, including restrooms/hallways clean.
  • Inspects and cleans walls for graffiti and markings.
  • Empties trashcans in public areas during the school day.
  • Cleans the building as needed: (vacuum, dust, mop etc.)
  • Secures and stores all cleaning supplies for the building.
  • Performs basic repairs and building upkeep.
  • Repairs and adjustments of locks, doors, cabinets, desks, closets; repairs door hinges; changes filters on window air conditioning units and water coolers
  • Exercises discretion in identifying projects requiring the services of a higher skilled person
  • Moves and assists in moving furniture and equipment
  • Maintains clean, safe and orderly environment
  • Provide set up of areas used by Community groups
  • Develops a maintenance log
  • Develops a maintenance schedule
  • Responds to teachers classroom repairs
  • Maintains lavatories in all areas
  • Ability to work some evening or weekend hours as needed

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • Must possess necessary janitorial skills and knowledge
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Experience in facility maintenance and/or custodial responsibilities
  • Knowledge of methods used in maintenance
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
  • Ability to perform outlined tasks with minimal supervision, in the timeframe provided.
  • Familiarity with cleaning/janitorial equipment and supplies and their safe use and storage.
  • Ability to work with a variety of constituents including children.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all office records which may be accessible in individual offices.
  • Position may require lifting and exposure to chemicals, dust, dirt, and bacteria.
  • Effectively use a variety of hand and power tools
  • Maintain work logs
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work assignments
