About the Parish:

St. John Catholic Church in Westminster, MD is located 34 miles west of Baltimore. The Parish began as a mission church in 1789 and currently has more than 4300 registered families, a youth faith formation program with over 700 students, an elementary school serving over 250 students, and a campus ministry program at nearby McDaniel College.

About the Focus of this Position:

In an effort to move forward in the spirit of the New Evangelization, the selected candidate must embrace and embody the spirit and intent of the following documents: The Joy of the Gospel by Pope Francis and A Light Brightly Visible by Archbishop Lori. As a Parish family we are striving to be bold and intentional in our efforts to promote missionary discipleship.

The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry (CYYAM) provides vision and coordination for the Parish's efforts in ministry to youth and young adults from high school to 35 years of age. Ministry includes high school youth group, a young adult group and coordination of Catholic Campus Ministry at McDaniel College. The CYYAM reports to the Pastoral Associate.

  • Specific duties include:
  • Attends regular staff meetings and participates in staff planning
  • Serves as a resource person to Parish staff on issues related to youth and young adult ministry
  • Updates and informs Parish staff and the Pastoral Council about youth and young adult events
  • Fosters the involvement of youth and young adults in the life of the Parish, including serving on various Parish committees and being involved in Parish activities and ministries
  • Advocates for a comprehensive vision of youth ministry/catechesis, based on the USCCB document, Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry
  • Collaborates with appropriate Archdiocesan offices when necessary, including Youth and Young Adult Ministries Office, Evangelization Office, and Office of Child and Youth Protection
  • Communicates all youth ministry events using every form of communication available (e.g.: Parish bulletin, website, Facebook, Flocknote, email, Instagram, etc.)
  • Maintains a very visible and regular presence at St. John School






Job Requirements


  • Must be a practicing Catholic able to participate in the Sacramental life of the Church
  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry or related field required
  • Minimum 3 years' Youth Ministry experience in a Catholic parish required
  • Experience speaking in front of groups of parents, teens, peers, and young adults, particularly in matters of faith
  • Must possess the skills and abilities necessary to effectively recruit, manage, direct, and motivate volunteers
  • Outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal communication and relational skills
  • Proficient in use of technology, including Microsoft office suite, and in use of social media
  • Must possess planning and visioning capabilities and the practical ability to implement plans and visions into action
  • Must be willing to take the Gallup Strengths Finders assessment, have a criminal background check, and complete training as mandated by the Archdiocese of Baltimore
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends
