Job Description

St. John the Evangelist Long Green Valley Parish, located in Hydes, Maryland, is seeking candidates for a part-time Communications Coordinator.  The communications coordinator develops and administers communications initiatives under the direction of the business manager.  He or she makes recommendations toward overall parish and public communications, coordinates with the parish staff to ensure the timely communication of events and completes other duties as assigned.  This is a 16 hours per week position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create the parish bulletin and transmit the print and online versions to the vendor by the weekly deadline.  This process includes preparing and formatting the necessary graphics, notices, Mass intentions monthly calendars, blurbs, etc.
  • Manage and update the parish website, social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and email communications applications (Flocknote).
  • Creates and supervises the publication of posters, print media and other means of publicity for parish events and manages other public relations as required
  • Manages video displays in the Church narthex
  • Creates and uploads content for all above, including graphics, photos, graphs, etc.
  • Prepares weekly Mass intention sheets for the church and chapel
  • Edits written communication when requested

 

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma required.  Associates or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Three to five years experience performing administrative or marketing communications duties.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Understanding of marketing communications concepts
  • Creative and forward-thinking nature
  • Proficient in Word, Publisher, Excel, Outlook and WordPress. Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing technologies
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of the mission of the Catholic Church and the related parish activities and ministries
  • Mission Driven: Willing and able to adapt to the vision of the parish
