Job Description

St. Maria Goretti Catholic High School, located in Hagerstown, MD has an opening for a Business Manager.The Business Manager reports to the President and manages the accounting and business aspects of our school. General duties include overseeing the Business Office and its staff, conducting financial assessments, generating reports, monitoring cash flow, and establishing departmental budgets. Confidentiality, excellent organizational skills, and accuracy are important qualifications for this position, as well as good customer relations, ability to meet deadlines and communicate clearly.

Job Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight

  • Performs/supervises day to day accounting duties including financial statement preparation.
  • Prepares and administers and reviews budget process in compliance with Archdiocesan policy.
  • Establishes and maintains a responsible cash flow management, monitoring and projection system.
  • Coordinates and executes all functions related to the preparation and completion of the annual external financial statement audit.
  • Establishes, monitors and oversees the internal control structure at the school in compliance with Archdiocesan policy 
  • Provides school financial status reports to the president, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Trustees on an established schedule.
  • Serves as resource to the Finance Committee.
  • Monitors & manages financial institution accounts in the name of the school.
  • Prepares and posts tuition agreement billing for student accounts.
  • Prepares monthly delinquency report and letters for collection purposes.         

Human Resource

  • Participates in the development and implementation of school personnel policies in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
  • Administers salary and benefits program.
  • Processes payroll for staff and faculty on a bi-weekly schedule
  • Coordinates recruitment and selection process for Business Office staff.
  • Maintain files for youth and child protection for employees


  • Maintain financial documentation for grant submittals.
  • Solicits and reviews bids and negotiates contracts.
  • Coordinates the scheduling and billing of busing


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Management, Finance, Accounting, or related field. Regardless of major, minimum of 15 college credits in Accounting required.
  • Minimum five years' experience in business or management required, in a professional corporate setting.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and knowledge of basic HR principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly EXCEL.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Church and its mission.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, sufficient to perform all job duties effectively.
  • The ability to interact confidentiality and effectively with school staff, students, and their families
  • Attendance at evening meetings will be required.
