Job Description

Resurrection-St. Paul School, located in Ellicott City, Maryland has an opening for an Assistant Principal for the 2018-2019 school year.The Assistant Principal serves as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the mission of Resurrection-St. Paul School- through the teaching of the Catholic Church, is dedicated to the total formation of the child by preparing them for a global society through innovation, problem solving, and cross- curricular collaboration.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the principal in fostering the Catholic Mission of the school
  • Assist the principal in planning, managing, and supervising school operations and instructional program
  • Support teachers in classroom management, discipline, safety and curriculum
  • Communicate proactively with faculty, staff, students and parents
  • Assist in the implementation of disciplinary policies and procedures related to student behavior and achievement; provide for student and parent due process in accordance with federal, state and school system rules and regulations; ensure confidentiality of all student records.
  • Serve as a member of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) team. Disseminate information about PBIS discipline policies and procedures to faculty, staff, students and parents. Assign consequences for inappropriate student’s behavior according to the PBIS matrix in the students’ handbook.
  • Serve as chair for major school committees such as school improvement team, Cultural Arts show committee and other committees as assigned by the Principal.
  • Assist the Principal in planning school wide professional development and retreats.
  • Help to create/develop agendas for professional development days and faculty/staff meetings.
  • Coordinate school support services and resources.
  • Assist the school counselor in preparing and reviewing student 504 accommodation plans and lead the processes of writing and reviewing IEP’s and 504 plans, in compliance with IDEA.
  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive student, parent, and faculty inquiries and complaints regarding school policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate and provide direction to a variety of faculty, staff, and student programs and services; participate in formal and informal classroom visits and observations; provide recommendations, suggestions for improvement and support as appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • A practicing Catholic who witnesses Gospel values and supports the philosophy of Catholic education.
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or Education Administration
  • Has a minimum of five years teaching experience (Md. State certified) or has had administrative experience in a Catholic school.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Superb interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Knowledge of 21st century learning, principles theory and practice
  • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation (students and teachers)
  • Effective instructional strategies and practices for all children
  • Principles, practices, rules and regulations pertaining to student discipline
