Job Description

The Archdiocese of Baltimore, America's first Catholic diocese, has an opening for an Assistant Controller. In this role, you will assist the Division Director in all aspects of planning, organizing, and maintaining accurate and complete accounting records of Central Services and supported campaigns and program of the Archdiocese. 

Some of your essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Gain proficiency in key accounting operating cycles including in Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Grant Distribution, Budget and Reporting ensuring these functions operate within established internal controls and source data is entered into ledgers timely and accurately
  • Assist Division Director and financial analysis staff to ensure that all cash, investment and other asset and liability accounts are properly reconciled and analyzed.
  • Assist in deploying staff as appropriate to meet the needs of Central Service, Insurance, IPLF, Child Nutrition, and development campaigns and other supported foundations.
  • Assist in the development, review, and implementation of policies and procedures, as required, in the area of fiscal management and Foundation governance.
  • To supervise preparation and perform adequate review of bi-weekly payroll of Central Service ensuring that all payroll actions have been properly supported and approved by department executive management.

Job Requirements

To be considered 'best qualified', candidates should have the following knowledge, skills, and qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of three years of public accounting/auditing experience
  • Demonstrable effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Great Plains and Quickbooks preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Excel
