Job Description

Our Lady of the Chesapeake Catholic Church, located in Pasadena, Maryland, is seeking candidates for a Maintenance Worker.  The maintenance worker is responsible for the security, maintenance, cleanliness and repair of parish facilities and grounds. Performs a variety of routine maintenance and minor repairs including carpentry, electrical and plumbing tasks, along with contracting with vendors for major repairs and maintenance projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the security of the Church's buildings and property including oversight of alarm systems and security cameras
  • Maintains and repairs structures and equipment. Paints and does minor work/repairs as necessary. Handles securing contractors for repairs, construction, snow removal or large maintenance projects
  • Maintains grounds by cutting grass, weeding, removing leaves, snow, trash, etc. as needed. Maintains grounds keeping equipment (tractor, leaf blower, weed whacker, lawn mower, trimmer)
  • Cleans the church, offices and restroom weekly or more often if needed. Vacuums, dusts, mops, strips and waxes the floor as needed
  • Removes trash from all buildings
  • Sets up equipment and furniture for various events and decorates for holiday events/seasons
  • Selects and schedules contractors for major repairs or projects, (i.e. large tree removal, burst pipes) 
  • Moves furniture and equipment as needed
  • Responsible for maintenance of tools and equipment used in daily duties
  • Must be able to assist in emergency situations, including after hours building alarms, shovel snow and remove ice when severe weather occurs
  • Maintains inventory of maintenance and bathroom supplies, restocks supplies as needed



Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required. Previous maintenance experience preferred
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist others with lifting larger amounts of weight
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, climb, stand, walk for extended periods of time and to operate heavy equipment as needed (e.g. floor buffer, carpentry tools and equipment, snow blower)
  • Must have good communication skills and be able to collaborate with other parish staff, church members and diocesan leaders
  • Must model Christian attitudes and behaviors and adhere to Archdiocesan Code of Conduct.
