Job Description

The men and women employed by the Archdiocese of Baltimore are dedicated professionals who endeavor to support the mission of the Archdiocese in many diverse areas including spiritual ministry, formation, social work, education and administrative services.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore is committed to protecting children; helping to heal victims of child abuse; and restoring and maintaining the trust of the faithful. We are currently seeking an Associate Director, Child and Youth Protection.   In this critical role, you will work on the initiatives as specified in the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.  Partnering with the parishes and schools, the incumbent will work to promote safe environments characterized by healthy relationships at our parishes and Archdiocesan schools.

Essential functions include (but are not limited to):

  • Assist the Director of the Office of Child and Youth Protection in reviewing, developing, and promoting child protection policies covering parishes and Archdiocesan schools
  • Promote child protection education in parishes and schools by overseeing mandatory online training of church personnel
  • Conduct individual and large group training related to preventing, identifying, and reporting child abuse in accordance with Maryland statutes and the policies of the Archdiocese of Baltimore
  • Implement consistent communication tools to parishes and schools to review and reinforce child protection efforts and policies
  • Serve as a resource for parishes and schools by helping assure compliance with Archdiocesan child protection policies and procedures regarding hiring, screening, and training of church personnel.
  • Promote compliance with Maryland‘s statutory child abuse reporting requirements by assisting church personnel at schools and parishes in reporting allegations of child abuse to civil authorities
  • Work with parishes and schools to facilitate cooperation with civil authorities investigating child abuse
  • Assist with outreach to victims of child abuse and their families
  • Assist with investigations of church personnel accused of child abuse, misconduct with a minor, or other failures to comply Archdiocesan child protection policies
  • Assist in managing compliance audits of parishes and Archdiocesan schools
  • Work with the Division of Human Resources and others in order to hold church personnel accountable for failing to comply with Archdiocesan child protection policy
  • Prepare reports related to Archdiocesan child protection efforts

 

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Masters in Human Resources, Social Science, Social Services, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with policy administration, training, compliance work, human resources, and/or other related areas

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality a must
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with minimum supervision and a high level of accuracy
  • Detail oriented
  • Frequent travel throughout the Archdiocese is required
